Groovy. Heavy. Psychedelic. - These are words that have been used time and time again to describe Nashville based Alternative/Experimental Rock band, Spirits Republic...a band that is known to deliver a fun, fresh slice of progressive alt-rock and has been cited as being, “dynamic”, “unapologetic” and “like Led Zeppelin mixed with The Smashing Pumpkins with a hint of early Red Hot Chili Peppers and Primus.”
Spirits Republic is made up of Russell Somer (lead vocals/guitar), Perry Dornbush (drums) and Ricky DeMeo (bass), all originally hailing from the Northeast (New York and Massachusetts) and now based in Nashville, TN, the three-piece came together in the summer of 2016 and quickly began working on original music that would be included on their debut album, “Hourglass.” From a young age, all three members of the band experienced the adrenaline rush of Rock and Roll and to this day they aim to make music that caters to what they personally love about listening to their favorite bands — interesting changes, catchy choruses, and dynamic genre blending within each song. Thriving in the party element, every show they play is high energy and unique with spontaneous set-list changes and improvisations that involve the crowd. The band’s latest single, “City Lights”, was released on May 15, 2020 and was cited by Indie Pulse Music as “[not] your cliche sappy breakup song.” and “[an injection of] sleek funk and blues swagger” by Mystic Sons.
Right before the pandemic hit in March 2020, Spirits Republic headlined the Nashville Tornado Relief Benefit, at house venue The Sanctuary, which raised $4,400 for Gideon's Army, whose mission is to eliminate the root causes of the prison pipeline by saving children from death and incarceration while guiding them on a secure path to success. Ricky and Russell also just collaborated with Jim Ivins on an original remote “Quarantune” collaboration, titled Foreword, in which all proceeds from Bandcamp revenue go to the, “MusiCares Covid Relief Fund”, raising money for musicians who are out of work due to the pandemic.
Spirits Republic has been busy writing and recording in the studio and are gearing up for the release of their latest single, “On & Bound”, streaming everywhere September 18, 2020. The band has also been hard at work creating new digital content for their YouTube comedy channel, “Horrible TV”.
